The cutest apron in the West!

My husband is home from Arizona. So that means I have to pull out the big guns and remind him why he married me… I sure look good in an apron. We went out for supper last night and tonight he made some awesome tacos. But isn’t this the coolest apron ever? I always put it on when I pour myself a glass of tea or stir something Colt has on the stove. He banned me from cooking we both decided my fingers are just too precious!

My best friend Kelli’s mom sent me an apron that she made from hand. It has really cute cowboy print fabric and I love that is has a ruffle around the bottom. Thanks Patti, I sure am glad I can at least look the part!

A Thanksgiving Day Adventure

This is a story of a thanksgiving day adventure. I hosted my very first thanksgiving day dinner in our new house for my fabulous in-laws. Cooking has always been a challenge for me, but I believe with a lot of preparation and the right tools you can be successful at anything. So the night before I stayed up late and made mash potatoes, sweet potatoes, dressing, spinach dip, brined the turkey and set the table.

I took written notes from my mom, researched recipes online, watched “howto” videos on youtube, and bought some essential tools. I mean you need the right tools for the job. I bought a great set of new holiday dishes at target. I highly recommend this set, they are very versatile! And only $15 for a set of Twelve!

AND

I thought I need a sharp knife every great chef needs a sharp knife.

Turns out it is sharp AND turns out…….

That no matter how the food turns out, as long as all the family turns out for the occassion it is a great day. Even the Peach was there!

This guy was the hero of the day. He confiscated all sharp objects from me and took over the carving portion! God please bless this man a hundred times over!

I love the background of this picture. Notice my SIL’s baby bump, isn’t she cute!! Also notice me stuffing my face!

We had a great day and really enjoyed each other!

But by the end of the day we are wearing dorky pajamas and passed out on the couch. Hope you all are grateful and thankful for all your blessings. Tonight I am thankful for 10 fingers!

Ree Drummond: The Pioneer Woman

I went to my very first book signing last night! I didn’t come home with a book or an actual signature from the author. BUT I did see her(the author) from a distance and it was an experience!

Why would I drive all the way to Denver, Colorado last night to stand in line for hours? Well of course it would be for the coveted, The Pioneer Woman Cooks by Ree Drummond!

Ree Drummond is a widly popular and successful blogger. Her blog thepioneerwoman.com was listed by Time as one of the top 25 blogs of 2009. She was recently featured in People magazine and Southern Living. I was trying to explain to my husband the significance of PDubb, What Oprah is to TV is what Ree is to the internet. Last night was an obvious indicator of her success and popularity. I also love that she is a country girl who posts pictures of prolapsed cows in between gardening tutorials, photography how to’s, home school lessons, beauty tips and of course lots of recipes AND(high pitched and energetic, just for you Kathy) pictures of HORSES, LOTS OF HORSES!

A Few Brief Notes

I love that my friend Kelli is a scrappy Wyoming girl. When we got stuck in a parking garage traffic jam instead of flipping people off or screaming at people she jumped out of the car. Did she get in a fight? Nooo she gave backing lessons to a few scared city folk and she directed traffic until we got back all the way out of that garage from the 4th level!!

The event was held at the Tattered Cover in downtown Denver. This seemed like a cool bookstore with a huge selection. The only suggestion I would make is when you are going to have a book signing, be sure to have books;)

There were two lines going into a basement room where the signing was held. This is one side, I think the room probably had another 250 people in it. Then there was still a line snaking all the way through the upper level of the bookstore.

When I realized there were no books to be had, I begged Kelli to take me to my favorite burrito shop. I get very grouchy when I’m hungry.
One of the many fights over the precious copies!

My Smart friend preordered 5 books and brought them with her. However we had to keep them hidden, it was making some women verry angry she had 5 copies and they couldn’t even buy one. Finally at 10pm we had to give up and head back to Wyoming, so Kim didn’t get her signatures either!

We did however receive spatulas as a consolation prize. I was in good need of a spatula, this a very heavy duty model. It actual scares me a little as I think of whippings from my very mean momma. These were from ChefsCatalog.com, THANKS!

From what I could hear from where I was at, Ree was soft spoken and very gracious. One woman posted she was just as sweet at 1am as she was at 7:30pm. She took lots of time with each person to sign their book, take pictures and visit with them. I can’t imagine how exhausted she must have been last night.
AND this is as close as I got to Mrs. Drummod, but if you squint and look at the very tip of my index finger you will see her. For a better picture check Kim’s blog, she had a higher powered camera;)

So Oprah you better look out! Ree Drummond for President! Finally now you know what I need for Christmas, oh and I would prefer a signed copy!
