Hallelujah Jalapeno Popcorn

Colt struck it rich again today! He is just one of those people who stumbles right into fortune. Colt stopped at a local Loaf’N'Jug here in Cheyenne, he was hankering for our favorite snack. We have recently became enamored with a certain brand of popcorn. I originally found this popcorn on a long road trip to Montrose, Colorado. I stopped at a gas station and thought I would try out a new snack. I wasn’t a mile down the road before I called Colt and raved about the new jalapeno popcorn I had discovered. As I frantically said “new jalapeno popcorn” Colt explained he had also tried the very same popcorn that very same day. He was in Greeley Colorado on business with a friend. As he munched down on the new popcorn he was thinking in his head, “I have to call Holly she would love this popcorn!” Then his phone rang, we call this mental mail. What is mental mail? Well that is another blog post, maybe I can convince Colt to write a guest post for me tomorrow.

So as I mentioned before my husband is a hustler. What you didn’t read that post? Well you really should, it is one of my favorite posts on this blog. You want the link? Okay it is right here:

Did you like it? Oh well, I still do! So as I said before my husband has a gift, he has divine intuition. Today was a prime example of his gift. Colt stopped at a local Loaf’N'Jug here in Cheyenne, he was hankering for our favorite snack. He circled the Loaf’N'Jug 3 or 4 times looking for the coveted popcorn. Finally he asked the clerk if she knew if they had this popcorn. They she uttered the sweetest words Colt has ever heard. There was a whole entire bin of our favorite popcorn on CLEARANCE! She explained the popcorn wasn’t selling well. WHAT!?! Well Colt proceed to buy every bag left in the store. Then she also mentioned all the loaf and jugs would have the same sale as well. So Colt’s day tomorrow involves hitting every Loaf’N'Jug in town. Now my only concern is that I hope it is selling well everywhere else. If Rocky Mountain Popcorn Company goes out of business I am afraid my Hustler Husband will own a popcorn factory!

A new obsession

Yes it has to do with carbs, lots of good old fashioned carbs!

If you are in Cheyenne or anywhere that has a Great Harvest bakery chain you have got to stop in and try out their goods. I love to go for lunch and eat their soup and sandwhichs. I love to take home fresh blueberry bread, toast and cover in Brie, YUM!! OR in the mornings I just about go crazy. They have homemade Raspberry scones filled with cream cheese. To die for!! And not dried and crusty scones. Perfectly moist scones, like they went and stole the tops of muffins…. I wake up thinking about Great Harvest Scones!
Find a location and learn more about the company here! In the meantime if you have not acquired my Christmas present yet, please send a gift certificate for 365 scones. It will make my year!!

Ree Drummond: The Pioneer Woman

I went to my very first book signing last night! I didn’t come home with a book or an actual signature from the author. BUT I did see her(the author) from a distance and it was an experience!

Why would I drive all the way to Denver, Colorado last night to stand in line for hours? Well of course it would be for the coveted, The Pioneer Woman Cooks by Ree Drummond!

Ree Drummond is a widly popular and successful blogger. Her blog thepioneerwoman.com was listed by Time as one of the top 25 blogs of 2009. She was recently featured in People magazine and Southern Living. I was trying to explain to my husband the significance of PDubb, What Oprah is to TV is what Ree is to the internet. Last night was an obvious indicator of her success and popularity. I also love that she is a country girl who posts pictures of prolapsed cows in between gardening tutorials, photography how to’s, home school lessons, beauty tips and of course lots of recipes AND(high pitched and energetic, just for you Kathy) pictures of HORSES, LOTS OF HORSES!

A Few Brief Notes

I love that my friend Kelli is a scrappy Wyoming girl. When we got stuck in a parking garage traffic jam instead of flipping people off or screaming at people she jumped out of the car. Did she get in a fight? Nooo she gave backing lessons to a few scared city folk and she directed traffic until we got back all the way out of that garage from the 4th level!!

The event was held at the Tattered Cover in downtown Denver. This seemed like a cool bookstore with a huge selection. The only suggestion I would make is when you are going to have a book signing, be sure to have books;)

There were two lines going into a basement room where the signing was held. This is one side, I think the room probably had another 250 people in it. Then there was still a line snaking all the way through the upper level of the bookstore.

When I realized there were no books to be had, I begged Kelli to take me to my favorite burrito shop. I get very grouchy when I’m hungry.
One of the many fights over the precious copies!

My Smart friend preordered 5 books and brought them with her. However we had to keep them hidden, it was making some women verry angry she had 5 copies and they couldn’t even buy one. Finally at 10pm we had to give up and head back to Wyoming, so Kim didn’t get her signatures either!

We did however receive spatulas as a consolation prize. I was in good need of a spatula, this a very heavy duty model. It actual scares me a little as I think of whippings from my very mean momma. These were from ChefsCatalog.com, THANKS!

From what I could hear from where I was at, Ree was soft spoken and very gracious. One woman posted she was just as sweet at 1am as she was at 7:30pm. She took lots of time with each person to sign their book, take pictures and visit with them. I can’t imagine how exhausted she must have been last night.
AND this is as close as I got to Mrs. Drummod, but if you squint and look at the very tip of my index finger you will see her. For a better picture check Kim’s blog, she had a higher powered camera;)

So Oprah you better look out! Ree Drummond for President! Finally now you know what I need for Christmas, oh and I would prefer a signed copy!
